Three Year Olds

The main focus of our three-year-old program is socialization. For many of the children, this is the first time they will be interacting with others without a parent present. They will experience being part of a team by working and playing with other children and adults. Helping your child become a happy, self-confident and well-adjusted, Christian individual is our ultimate goal. We rely on The Creative Curriculum as a basic framework for our curriculum.

The first few weeks of school are spent developing a classroom community. The three year olds “transition” into school over a period of two weeks (four school days) with each class increasing in time and activity. The children will learn how to make friends, use problem solving skills and become part of the classroom community.

The teachers begin the year by establishing a structure for each day. Time is blocked out in an orderly and consistent fashion to help the children feel safe and secure; this will encourage children to become more independent as the year progresses.

Children, especially young children, learn better through play. We embrace this concept and provide a wide range of hands-on activities that encourage children to experiment with literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, the arts and process skills. The teachers set monthly goals and develop their curriculum dependent upon the children’s developmental levels.

During the course of each class, the children will have the opportunity to participate in free choice activities, small group encounters, and whole group teacher-directed experiences. Free choice activities will allow for personal interests and self-expression. Small groups are designed to enhance social skills and provide individual attention. Whole group experiences are intended to develop listening skills and the ability to follow directions, as well as allow the practice of being part of a large group.

We believe that spiritual growth is an integral and inseparable part of a child’s well being. If nurtured properly, this spiritual growth occurs naturally in connection with other aspects of a child’s development. Our objective is to provide this spiritual nurturing by way of our day-to-day actions, speech, and classroom community.
